Trip Itinerary
This day trip will depart from location of your choosing within the Chicagoland area and Southeastern Wisconsin:
Mid-morning departure to Southeast Wisconsin and visit the Greek Orthodox Monastery, St. John Chrysostomos (Bishop of Constantinopole) in Pleasant Prairie. This is one of the 17 Greek Monasteries that was founded by Greek monk and elder Fr. Ephrem from Arizona. This monastery is well known for their handmade wooden, stone and mineral icons which are available to purchase at the bookstore. Meeting with the Abbess and sightseeing of the beautiful Monastic community.
Early Afternoon departure to second destination, Protection of Mother of God Monastery in Third Lake, IL. This monastery is known as the New Gracanica Monastery as it is a replica of the Gracanica Monastery located in Kosovo and Metohija. After arrival we will have lunch provided and receive a short history lesson of the monastery. Afterwards we will tour the inside of the monastery to learn about the frescoes and the replica of the Bogorodica Trojrucice Icon which is a replica of the wonderworking icon located Mount Athos.
Departure to St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville, IL. Tour of the monastery grounds including visit to the grave site of St. Nikolai of Zica. Attend vesper service followed by a prayer to St. Mardarije of Libertyville. Afterwards you will have an opportunity to see and venerate the holy relics of St. Mardarije. We will receive a history of the monastery to include information on the frescoes of the monastery.
